Amongst the other cool features we noted on the Jalou Dolce & Gabbana included the fact that SMS-conversations could be threaded so you can keep up-to-date with conversations between friends. We found the 3.2 megapixel camera to be of average quality and we enjoyed the fact we could shoot video, however without a flash we found this to be a surprisingly poor camera release from Sony Ericsson.
Unfortunately we found that there is a lot to dislike when you analyse the Jalou Dolce & Gabbana, starting with the fact that, Fashionista stats aside, the overall handset is pretty poor quality. Sony Ericsson have annoying neglected to include a 3.5mm headphone jack, the memory is an appalling 100MB and connectivity is on the rubbish side with support for only GPRS, 3G, HSDPA, USB and Bluetooth, meaning that browsing capability costs an awful lot.
Due to the fact that Sony Ericsson seem to have marketed the Jalou Dolce & Gabbana to the fashion-forward trendsters, they have spent far too much time trying to make the handset attractive, fashionable and compact and have even gone as far as to include a stereotypical mirror. Unfortunately for most modern fashion-focused woman this is not enough, as they want the apps, beautiful screens, excellent camera and a host of other smartphone options too.
We found that the shape of the handset is incredibly bizarre to get used to and the buttons on the keypad are crazy. By including a hexagonal control pad, trying to press a directional key is often pretty confusing. The screen is miniscule and hard to read and browse on so we found the internet capabilities to be completely pointless.
In conclusion the Dolce & Gabbana Jalou is a sub-par release from Sony Ericsson that puts more stock in aesthetics than creating a usable phone with any credentials. Saying that, little girls will probably love the Jalou handset and if were honest then it’s only little girls who would have a use for the phone. Indeed we feel the only demographic suitable for such a phone is little girls.
