Mobile Phone Review: LG GS101 - A Disappointingly Basic Budget Phone

You won't find even the most basic camera and don't expect a coverted 3.5 mm headphone jack, as there's not even a music player to speak of. However, if you want a phone that is just a phone, these absences won't concern you. But you won't be left with nothing, as there are a couple of interesting games. Amongst the features we loved the fake call, which allows you to pretend to receive a call to get yourself out of unwanted situations.

Of course you shouldn't expect much internet connectivity. It lacks 3G, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, but you can get USB and EDGE. This limited connectivity is to be expected as there isn't much to work with, especially considering the phone has no browser. On the plus side its predictive text is quite handy, especially in light of the difficult keypad.

Normally in a phone with so few features, the main upside is the amazing battery life and although this phone can't provide you with days of use, you will get 630 hours of standby and four hours and thirty minutes of talk time. So what are the good points of the LG GS101? Firstly, the price rings in at below £10 at some retailers.

Additionally, the phone's sturdy design and basic features make it an ideal spare phone for risky ventures. Also, if you want a phone that is just a phone, this will do fine. If you'd rather not risk losing or breaking a more expensive model on a night out or at a festival, this is ideal.

It also has the potential to be a great emergency phone, stuffed neatly into your glovebox. The LG GS101 provides you with exactly what it advertises. However, if it's a bit too bare bones for you, there are a myriad of phones with extra features in a similar price range.

The LG GS101 is a promising phone with good features that could compete with today's latest. LG hasn't lost the mobilephone market yet and they also have lots of phone deals with free laptop that might change your mind when buying the phone you have in mind.
