Though quite similar to its predecessors, the Palm Pre and the Palm Pre Plus, the Palm Pre 2 features some distinct improvement. For a start the battery life is much better, lasting over a day and a half even after heavy use.
The camera is much better too, enjoying an upgrade to more respectful 5 megapixels with LED flash. The Pre 2 has been granted use of Web OS 2.0, the latest version of Web OS that is incredibly fast and when combined with the processor’s amazing speed of 1GHz, it’s a speedy little phone that allows quick launching of the apps installed.
Each of these app’s is displayed as a thumbnail on the home screen and when running multiple apps they are displayed like a deck of cards, allowing for easy selection between them. The Pre 2’s menu has also enjoyed a re-vamp, with features that allow you to group icons into screens to categorise your apps.
Amongst the many things to enjoy we were particularly impressed by the ‘Just Type’ box, which allows you to type things into it to take you to a variety of places, including earlier messages, contacts and Google Search. You can even start texts and emails from this box to send later.
The Palm Pre 2 is a promising phone with good features that could compete with today's latest. Palm hasn't lost the mobilephone market yet and they also have lots of mobile phone contracts that might change your mind when buying the phone you have in mind.
