After the 9700 release we weren’t sure that RIM could improve on their BlackBerry Bold handsets, however we were prepared to be proved wrong when we heard of the release of the BlackBerry Bold 9780. But have they improved their latest release enough to entice their customers into buying the latest handset?
Obviously BlackBerry’s biggest selling point has long been the presence of the full QWERTY keyboard that clicks so pleasantly when you’re using it. The 9780 is no exception, with angled keys that provide you with enough differentiation to get used to the smaller typing surface.
It’s running the BlackBerry OS 6 operating system, first seen on the BlackBerry Torch 9800. Though not a completely new experience the OS 6 offers a smooth run at a fast rate, with all of your favourite applications being easily accessed from the home screen.
The media player and browser have been updated to a much higher standard on the 9780. Although the screen is of a smaller size in comparison to some of the smartphones on the market, BlackBerry have installed an auto-column function to prevent you from needing to scroll across the page to read when zoomed in.
The browser is much easier to use than previous models and is much faster, providing you with seamless browsing wherever you are. Obviously the e-mail client on the 9780 is fantastic, as you would come to expect from BlackBerry’s USP. It’s really easy to access the office on the move, with documents being easy to download and send.
