As an Anroid phone the Optimus Me is running the Froyo version. With Froyo you are able to access a host of great apps and games via the Android Marketplace, so you can fully maximise the entertainment value of the Optimus Me. There are a range of Google goodies are on board, including Maps, YouTube and Gmail apps, and you can customise these onto one of the seven homescreens.
A handy little feature, LG have included an App Advisor that provides recommendations based on the popularity of apps, but unfortunately you can only view eight at a time and there’s no filtering, which was a serious let-down. We weren’t overly impressed with the 3 megapixel camera offering, which is distinctly average to poor on a phone in this price range, especially in light of LG’s prior triumphs in the phone camera optics department. You do get a range of different features however, which allow you to improve your images.
These include mono, negative, solarise and sepia tones and the ISO and white balance are adjustable. You can record video in the VGA format, which isn’t the best in quality, but it’s an added feature. The 600Mhz processor provides you with browsing at an average speed, and it is acceptable for everyday use, but there are other phones that can provide you with a lot more in this department.
As the screen is on the smaller side, the keyboard feels more cramped than we would like when used in landscape mode, so you’re often switching between landscape and portrait modes. In conclusion the Optimus Me is a really average phone in this price range. Though it’s compact, solid and modest in it’s offerings, we weren’t impressed with this offering from LG, especially in light of their other new releases.
It seems that LG didn’t shout this release from the rooftops because there’s not really a lot to say – the phone is a very basic Android. If that’s all you’re after or if you’re new to the world of smartphones, then it’s a good starting point, however those who want a little more for their money would be better off assessing the HTC Wildfire.
The LG Optimus Me is a promising phone with good features that could compete with today's latest. LG hasn't lost the mobilephone market yet and they also have lots of cheap LG Optimus Me deals that might change your mind when buying the phone you have in mind.
