Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mobile Phone Review: A Good Call?

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 is a good example of an Android phone, with a great screen and an excellent camera. For newcomers to the world of Android, it’s a phone you will fall in love with easily, but those used to multi-touch or better integrated custom apps will think there’s something missing and you would be right in that assumption.

The X10 hosts a feature called Mediascape, a useful tool that shows photos, video and music on your phone, as well as displaying online photos from websites such as Facebook. Your call quality is good, as is the battery life. We were able to get a whole day from a full charge, which is admirable when looking at other smart phones.

The X10’s also features a function called Timescape, which brings together everything from email, texts and tweets to recent songs and photos into a timeline you are able to flick through using your finger. Though it’s a great idea, it is quite frustrating to use and get the hang of.

You have to tap each message to see more than the first couple of words and then tap again in order to open another application for replying or when following links. When you are constantly having to go backwards and forwards, you wish the feature wasn’t available in the first place.

Another irritant is that the X10 runs an older version of Android, that being the 1.6 version, which is really out-dated now. You can still download apps and use Google Maps, but there are a substantial number of things on the Android store that you won’t be able to access.

The X10 isn’t the faster of phones around, though it certainly isn’t the worst, however the 1GHz Snapdragon processor has a lot to deal with, like Timescape, which occasionally makes it drag. Another point to mention is the on-screen keyboard, though better than average keyboard it is not quite as responsive as we would prefer, especially for fast typers.

The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 is a good phone to have considering its features and usability. Consider to get free TV with contract phone as these deals give good discounts and affordable monthly pay.
